Women the world over have continued to break into professions and positions that were considered predominantly male bastions. In St. Lucia and within the SunSwept group of Resorts, this is no exception.
A graduate of the University of the West Indies, CHTM, Bahamas, Yhasmine Remy-Hylton had planned on becoming a Tourism consultant. Her interests lay between Tourism Marketing and Tourism Policy and Planning.
Her career took off immediately upon graduation as she was offered her first industry job at The BodyHoliday (one of four resorts in the SunSwept chain) where she managed the concierge service for two and a half years. She continued to garner her skills gaining useful experience from other industry partners and seventeen months later, another opportunity presented itself.
Yhasmsine returned to SunSwept Resorts where a new journey was about to begin at Rendezvous.
She joined the team as the Operations Manager in November 2005. Within months of being employed at the resort she exhibited true leadership qualities, positive managerial practices, and sound judgment, proving a valuable asset to the company.
In 2006 she was promoted to the position of House Manager where she surpassed the expectations of the then General Manager Nigel Theophilus and the Hotel owners. It was no surprise when Mrs. Remy-Hylton was the first candidate considered for the Acting General Manager post when Nigel was transferred to the Jalousie Plantation, another SunSwept Resort. Only eight months after assuming the position of Acting General Manager, the position of General Manager was offered to her. Today Yhasmine and her team manage a successful 100 room resort, billed as a boutique hotel for couples only. A hotel with a 40 year history in St. Lucia, Rendezvous has grown from strength to strength. Under the watchful eye of the management team led by Yhasmine Remy-Hylton, the resort is expected to do very well.
